Dr. Bonnie Smith shared the equestrian life with the women in her family. This inspired her to become a veterinarian which combined her passion for science and the love of horses. She worked her way through college as a respiratory therapist in NJ to get her A.A.S. and B.S. degrees. Later she graduated from Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine with her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. She has cared for humans, horses, cattle, goats, sheep, llamas, alpacas, donkeys, pigs, birds, hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, ferrets, rabbits, dogs, and cats.
Dr. Smith has always valued educating clients and veterinarians. Volunteering for 25 years at the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), she’s chaired numerous committees and has been on the board of directors most of that time. It has been an outlet for many diversified interests. Becoming the president of the MVMA in March 2020, during the Covid 19 pandemic, has been her highest achievement so far.
She joined our practice in May 2023 and her special interests are One Health, pulmonary medicine and infectious diseases. Fun Fact: She’s read both “The Origin of Species” and “The Wealth of Nations”. She loves spending time with family and enjoys art, music, hiking, birding, or being at any beach.
